Notes: An extremely rare vintage Patagonia Hi-Loft Goose Down Sweater from F/W 1988 in great well-loved preowned vintage condition with signs of heavy wear. Signs of wear include two green repair patches on the back-right sleeve as seen in photo 2. Introduced in F/W 1988, this was the original Patagonia Hi-Loft Down Jacket model.
The Down Sweater is a clean rendition of the classic, lightweight down jacket. The density of the down varies from shoulder to waist: a higher density in the chest and shoulders warms the vulnerable upper body, while below, where there are pockets (and thus a double layer), there is less density of fill. A side effect of this density variation is that we avoided the Bartlett-shape look so common in down garments. Attention has been given to fit. The Y-Joint sleeves allow free, non-binding arm movement. Under the arm is a long panel, rather than baffles, so you avoid looking like a doughboy. The quilting seam lines on the sweater offset those on the vest, so when you layer the two together you won't have any cold spots. The down-filled collar is contoured to wrap up and around the back of your neck; it's fitted and overlapped at the front to keep your chin warm. The lightweight zipper ends below the chin so you won't freeze yourself to the zipperstop. It's protected by a storm flap. The wrists and waist are trimmed in Lycra to seal out drafts and allow easy layering over the sweater. Down filled pockets are protected with flaps. The sweater has its own stuff sack (Patagonia, Fall 1989).
